How Is Waste Converted into Energy?

Industry News / Chat online / Give me a price / April 22, 2025

In today's era of rapid economic development, the issue of waste disposal has become increasingly prominent. Traditional waste treatment methods, such as landfilling and incineration, not only occupy land resources but also pose severe threats to the environment. As a result, waste to energy conversion technologies have garnered widespread attention. Waste can be categorized into solid waste and hazardous waste, with pyrolysis technology primarily used for solid waste such as waste tire, plastic, oil sludge treatment and distillation technology for hazardous waste such as pyrolysis oil, engine oil, hydraulic oil treatment. Next, I will introduce to you how waste is converted into energy, taking DOING's pyrolysis and distillation technology as examples:

DOING Pyrolysis Process for Solid Waste

Pyrolysis technology involves heating waste materials in the absence presence of oxygen to decompose them into gases, liquids, and solids. The specific process is as follows:

Pre-treatment: Waste materials are sorted, cleaned, and crushed to meet the requirements for pyrolysis reactions.

Pyrolysis reaction: The pre-treated waste is fed into a pyrolysis reactor and heated to high temperatures (typically 280–320°C). Under oxygen-deficient conditions, hydrocarbons in the waste decompose to produce pyrolysis gas, liquid oil, and solid residues.

Condensation: The pyrolysis gas undergoes a multi-step condensation process. Here, they are cooled and condensed into liquid pyrolysis oil, which is one of the key energy products of the pyrolysis process. The non-condensable gases produced are purified through DOING’s patented exhaust deodorization device. This device effectively removes harmful substances from the gases, ensuring they meet environmental standards before being recycled as heating fuel for the furnace, achieving efficient energy utilization.

Solid residue processing: The solid residues, primarily carbon black, are collected and packaged for subsequent sales or applications. Carbon black can be further processed and refined to produce high-value products such as rubber additives and pigments, achieving resource recovery and utilization.

Oil refining: The pyrolysis oil can be further refined using distillation equipment to produce diesel and asphalt.

Waste Oil Distillation Technology for Hazardous Waste

Waste oil distillation technology is a process that separates waste oil from water and impurities through physical methods such as distillation, cooling, and filtration, yielding diesel products that meet or closely match the quality of certain industrial oils. The specific process is as follows:

Distillation reaction: Our vertical reactor design ensures a more uniform heating area compared to horizontal reactors. This design is more efficient in removing impurities. Once the oil is in the reactor, open the burners to heat the distillation reactor. Under high-temperature heating, impurities are removed, and the waste oil is further distilled into oil gas.

Condensation: Here, the oil gas is cooled and condensed into liquid oil.

Purification process: This step is divided into two categories. Our traditional distillation machine uses liquid catalysts, which are acid and alkali solutions, to purify the oil. Our new distillation machine uses solid catalysts, distilled oil gas from distillation reactor will firstly passes through the catalytic tower for purification and then liquid fuel oil---non standard diesel. For even cleaner diesel, you can decolorize it with white clay. Finally, the distillation oil, which has been decolorized and deodorized, is filtered through a leaf filter to produce bright and pure diesel fuel.

Usages of waste oil distillation products

The products of waste oil distillation primarily include non-standard diesel and asphalt. The diesel can be used in boilers, generators, burners, agricultural machinery, construction machinery, ship engines, etc. The asphalt can be used for paving, or sold to asphalt plants.

Benefits of DOING Pyrolysis Technology and Distillation Technology

Environmental Benefits

Reduces landfill and incineration of waste: Pyrolysis technology effectively decreases the volume of waste requiring landfill or incineration, alleviating land occupation and reducing air pollution caused by incineration. Distillation technology achieves resource recovery of waste oil, reducing the environmental risks associated with improper waste oil disposal.

Minimizes secondary pollution: Advanced gas purification systems ensure that exhaust emissions meet environmental standards, preventing secondary pollution. Distillation technology operates in a fully enclosed system, avoiding the emission of harmful gases and preventing environmental pollution.

Economic Benefits

Creates valuable products: The pyrolysis process yields multiple valuable products, such as pyrolysis oil, carbon black, and non-condensable gases. These products can be sold in the market to generate economic returns. For example, pyrolysis oil can serve as industrial heating fuel or be refined into diesel for use in diesel engines. Carbon black can be processed into products like rubber additives and pigments, creating economic value. Waste oil distillation produces non-standard diesel and asphalt that can be sold at market prices, generating significant economic benefits.

Energy Savings: The non-condensable gases produced during pyrolysis and distillation can be recycled as fuel for the pyrolysis furnace, reducing energy consumption and lowering operating costs.

In conclusion, DOING's pyrolysis technology and distillation technology provide effective solutions for converting waste into energy. It not only generates considerable environmental benefits by reducing landfill and incineration, alleviating environmental burdens, but also creates significant economic benefits by producing valuable resources.
