What plastics can be used in thermal pyrolysis process？

As we know the waste plastic can be pyrolysis to fuel oil by the waste plastic pyrolysis machine. But is all plastic suitable for pyrolysis machine? Normally the most of plastic can be used in thermal pyrolysis process. But there are also some plastic not suitable for the waste plastic pyrolysis machine.

Waste plastic pyrolysis machine

There are several main types of plastics that can be used in thermal pyrolysis process:

1. PE(polythene), such as: thin film, galvanic isolation materials, reticule, water pipes, oil tank, milk bottle, the case of TV, radio, washing machine barrel material, infusion bottle, injection molded products and wire and cable and so on, the oil yield rate of this type of plastic can reach to 95%.

2. PP(polypropylene), such as: soy milk bottle, yogurt bottle, microwave lunch box, plastic ropes, furniture, bottle cap, vehicle bumpers, basin, woven bag and so on, the oil yield rate of PP can reach to 90%.

3. PS(polystyrene), such as: electrical appliance, stationery, toys, bowl pack instant noodles box, fast food box and so on, the oil yield rate of PS can reach to 90%.

4. ABS(engineering plastic) also namely PC+ABS, such as: washing machines, TV sets, refrigerators, computers, photocopiers and other electronic appliances, the oil yield rate of ABS can reach to about 40%.

5. Paper mill waste also can be used in thermal pyrolysis process. If it is wet, the oil yield is 15%-20%, and if it is dry, the oil yield can reach 60%.

Oil yield of different plastics

There are also two types of plastics that are not suitable for thermal pyrolysis process: PET and PVC. PET is commonly found in mineral water bottles, carbonated beverage bottles and so on. This plastic contains almost no oil and is more suitable for pelleting. PVC is commonly found in raincoats, building materials, plastic boxes, etc. But it is also not suitable for thermal pyrolysis process because it contains high acid content and can easily corroded pyrolysis reactors over time.
